Ingersoll Rand MSG Centac C700 — 2-Stage Centrifugal Compressor

POA (Request a Quote)

Ingersoll Rand MSG Centac C700 — 2-Stage

The two-stage MSG Centac C700 is an engineered centrifugal air compressor for lower-pressure industrial duties. Its package combines a geared airend, electric driver, intercooling, lubrication system and compressor controls.

Why choose the C700 2-Stage?

  • Two compression stages with a dedicated pinion and impeller arrangement.
  • Integrated cartridge intercooling and moisture separation between stages.
  • Inlet guide vane control and bypass control for operation at varying air demand.
  • Carbon ring sealing separates the compressed-air path from the lubricated gearbox.

C700 2-Stage technical design and operating systems

Two-stage airend and gearing

The two-stage C700 is selected for lower-pressure industrial air duties. The electric motor drives a common bullgear, which transmits power to a separate pinion and impeller for each stage. Precision helical gearing is specified to AGMA 12 in the referenced proposal. Stage speeds are chosen for the required aerodynamic duty rather than forcing both impellers to run at motor speed.

Impellers, diffusers and bearings

Backward-leaning 15-5 PH stainless-steel impellers accelerate the air; stationary diffusers then recover pressure before the next stage. Dynamically balanced rotor assemblies run on hydrodynamic journal and thrust bearings. Vibration probes continuously monitor mechanical condition and feed measurements to the compressor controller.

Carbon-ring seals and oil-free compression

The seal cartridge uses three floating, non-contact carbon rings: one air seal and two oil seals. Seal air between the oil rings and an atmospheric vent separate the process-air path from the gearbox. Seal-air supply and start-up arrangements form part of the installation engineering.

Intercooling and condensate removal

A built-in cartridge intercooler removes heat between the two compression stages. Stainless-steel mesh separators and condensate traps remove liquid moisture. Cooling-water quality, temperature and flow must be checked against the selected cooler duty; downstream air drying is selected separately for the required dew point.

Self-contained lubrication

A shaft-driven main oil pump supplies the gears and bearings during operation. An electric pre/post-lubrication pump protects the machine during starting and stopping. The system includes an oil reservoir within the baseplate, filtration, temperature regulation, water-cooled oil cooler, oil heater and low-pressure monitoring.

Xe-145F controls and capacity regulation

The referenced package uses the Xe-145F controller with Modbus RTU/TCP, RS485 and Ethernet interfaces. Pneumatically actuated inlet guide vanes modulate capacity, while bypass control manages demand below the minimum throttled flow. Motor winding and bearing temperatures are monitored with PT100 sensors. HELIX connectivity is available where included and enabled in the project.

Typical C700 2-Stage package scope

The final quotation defines included equipment and options. Depending on the selected duty, the package can include:

  • Two-stage airend, electric driver and common baseplate
  • Inlet filtration and inlet guide vane actuator
  • Cartridge cooling, moisture separation and condensate removal
  • Lubrication system with main and auxiliary pumps
  • Discharge check valve, bypass valve and silencer
  • Xe-145F control panel and package instrumentation
  • General arrangement, P&ID, electrical drawings and operating documentation

Performance and selection basis

The two-stage selection shown below is an individual 4 barg duty. The published C700 family envelope covers several aerodynamic arrangements and cannot establish the rating of this two-stage selection.

Product image shows a representative C700 package. Stage arrangement, controller, driver and accessories depend on the supplied configuration.

Example engineered configuration

The following values describe an individual Ingersoll Rand proposal. They are project-specific and are not universal ratings of the compressor family. Flow reference conditions and gauge or absolute pressure must be retained when comparing equipment.

Discharge pressure 4.000 barg
Dry inlet-normal flow 6,348 INm³/h at 25°C inlet
Alternative inlet conditions 6,514 INm³/h at 20°C; 7,151 INm³/h at 0°C; 6,257 INm³/h at 30°C
Offered motor 530 kW / 400 V / 50 Hz / IP23

Selection, service and quotation

Send AVISTA your required pressure, flow with its reference conditions, operating temperature, cooling-water data, electrical supply and installation requirements. AVISTA can assist with package selection, commissioning and spare-parts planning.

Applications and installation planning

Lower-pressure plant-air networks, manufacturing processes and centralized oil-free air systems are potential applications. Confirm pressure, air quality, operating profile and site utilities before selection. Oil-free air still requires appropriate treatment where a specified dew point or particle class is needed.

Installation planning covers cooling-water connections, condensate drainage, inlet and discharge piping, blow-off routing, electrical protection, instrument air and maintenance clearances. Package dimensions, lifting data and utility loads should be taken from the approved project drawings.

Engineering and lifecycle support from AVISTA

AVISTA can support duty selection, technical clarification, quotation, documentation coordination, commissioning, maintenance planning and genuine spare parts. Send required flow with reference conditions, discharge pressure, inlet temperature range, humidity, elevation, cooling-water data, electrical supply and control interfaces for an engineered selection.

C700 2-Stage FAQ

How does the two-stage C700 differ from the three-stage version?

This selection uses two compression stages for a lower-pressure duty. A third stage changes the aerodynamic arrangement and pressure capability; the motor, cooling and performance curve must be selected for each required duty.

Is C700 2-Stage an oil-free compressor?

Yes. The Centac design separates the compressed-air path from the lubricated gearing and bearings. Final air-treatment requirements and the selected package are confirmed during technical review.

Are the example performance values guaranteed for my installation?

They describe the stated engineering selections or catalogue envelope. A project guarantee requires an agreed duty point, reference conditions, scope and performance curve.
