Ingersoll Rand MSG TURBO-AIR 2000 (TA2000)

The MSG TURBO-AIR 2000, also known as TA2000, is a three-stage integrally geared centrifugal air compressor. The package includes compressor controls, inlet filtration, lubrication, cooling and a discharge check valve, with the final electrical driver selected for the duty.

Why choose the TA2000?

  • Three-stage compression with oil-free air and non-contacting labyrinth air and oil seals.
  • Built-in aftercooling and removable water-in-tube cooler bundles.
  • Horizontally split gearbox supports inspection and servicing.
  • MAESTRO Universal controls support operation monitoring, protection and capacity control.

TA2000 technical design and operating systems

Three-stage compressor and aerodynamic path

TA2000 compresses air in three integrally geared stages. Impellers impart velocity and vaned diffusers convert that velocity into pressure. The common frame supports the airend, driver and auxiliary systems, while the horizontally split gearbox provides access for inspection.

Labyrinth seals and bearing design

Non-contact labyrinth air and oil seals separate the compression path from the lubricated gearbox. An atmospheric space between the seals provides oil separation without the carbon-ring arrangement used by Centac. The pinion bearing system supports operation throughout the selected loading range.

Integrated water cooling

The package includes interstage cooling and a built-in aftercooler, avoiding a separate pipeline aftercooler in the standard arrangement. Water-in-tube bundles can be withdrawn for inspection and cleaning. Condensate handling and downstream drying remain necessary to meet the required moisture specification.

Forced-feed lubrication

The referenced offer includes a shaft-driven main oil pump and an electric auxiliary pump for start-up, shutdown and low-oil-pressure conditions. Oil passes through a water-cooled shell-and-tube cooler, automatic temperature regulation and filtration before reaching the gears and bearings. The system is supplied assembled with the compressor.

MAESTRO Universal control

MAESTRO Universal provides capacity and anti-surge control, protection, data logging and operating trends. The referenced panel uses an IP54 enclosure and 10-inch colour display. A web-enabled interface supports monitoring, and RS485 communication can coordinate multiple compressor control systems.

Capacity regulation and installation

The available project proposal specifies inlet butterfly modulation and blow-off control; inlet guide vanes are a model option described by IR. Valve selection and control modes are therefore confirmed with the quotation. The packaged check valve and integrated cooling reduce external installation connections.

Typical TA2000 package scope

The final quotation defines included equipment and options. Depending on the selected duty, the package can include:

  • Three-stage airend, driver and common frame
  • Inlet filter and quoted inlet control valve
  • Built-in intercooling and aftercooling
  • Lubrication package with main and auxiliary pumps
  • Discharge check valve and blow-off arrangement
  • MAESTRO Universal controller in the referenced proposal
  • Performance data, drawings and operating manual

Performance and selection basis

The published range is a catalogue guide. The project example below specifies 10.342 barg and requires individual engineering confirmation. Its flow is actual inlet volume, so it must not be directly compared with normal-volume figures. Motor rating remains subject to clarification.

Manufacturer published model envelope

Published standard input power 93–260 kW
Published discharge pressure 3.5–10.3 barg
Published inlet flow 15–50 m³/min
Catalogue weight 5,543 kg; confirm selected package

Range endpoints are not one simultaneous operating point. Flow reference conditions and the selected pressure determine the available duty. Dimensions and mass are catalogue guidance; installation must use the approved general arrangement.

Example engineered configuration

The following values describe an individual Ingersoll Rand proposal. They are project-specific and are not universal ratings of the compressor family. Flow reference conditions and gauge or absolute pressure must be retained when comparing equipment.

Discharge pressure 10.342 barg
Inlet volume flow 30.312 Im³/min — actual inlet volume, not normal volume
Inlet conditions 0.972 bara / 35°C / 60% relative humidity
Cooling-water inlet temperature 29.440°C
Calculated shaft power 204.637 kW
Motor selection To be confirmed for the required duty and electrical supply

Selection, service and quotation

Send AVISTA your required pressure, flow with its reference conditions, operating temperature, cooling-water data, electrical supply and installation requirements. AVISTA can assist with package selection, commissioning and spare-parts planning.

Applications and installation planning

Industrial manufacturing, chemical plants, utilities and oil-free process or instrument-air systems are potential applications. Confirm pressure, air quality, operating profile and site utilities before selection. Oil-free air still requires appropriate treatment where a specified dew point or particle class is needed.

Installation planning covers cooling-water connections, condensate drainage, inlet and discharge piping, blow-off routing, electrical protection, instrument air and maintenance clearances. Package dimensions, lifting data and utility loads should be taken from the approved project drawings.

Engineering and lifecycle support from AVISTA

AVISTA can support duty selection, technical clarification, quotation, documentation coordination, commissioning, maintenance planning and genuine spare parts. Send required flow with reference conditions, discharge pressure, inlet temperature range, humidity, elevation, cooling-water data, electrical supply and control interfaces for an engineered selection.

TA2000 FAQ

Does oil-free air mean no dryer is required?

No. Oil-free compression concerns oil contamination. Water vapour, dew point and solid particles are separate requirements; the dryer and downstream filtration are selected for the application.

Is TA2000 an oil-free compressor?

Yes. The TURBO-AIR design separates the compressed-air path from the lubricated gearing and bearings. Final air-treatment requirements and the selected package are confirmed during technical review.

Are the example performance values guaranteed for my installation?

They describe the stated engineering selections or catalogue envelope. A project guarantee requires an agreed duty point, reference conditions, scope and performance curve.
