Ingersoll Rand MSG TURBO-AIR NX2500 Centrifugal Compressor

POA (Request a Quote)

Ingersoll Rand MSG TURBO-AIR NX2500

The MSG TURBO-AIR NX2500 is a three-stage integrally geared centrifugal air compressor with oil-free compression. The package combines MXS controls, inlet filtration, lubrication, intercooling, aftercooling and an electric driver selected for the required duty.

Why choose the NX2500?

  • Three-stage compression with optimized impellers and gas passages.
  • Labyrinth air and oil seals separate the air stream from the lubrication system.
  • Inlet guide vane control supports operation at varying air demand.
  • Accessible split gearbox, removable cooler bundles and duplex oil filtration support maintenance.

NX2500 technical design and operating systems

Three-stage airend and pressure conversion

The NX2500 uses a three-stage integrally geared arrangement. Inlets, impellers, diffusers and scrolls are selected to deliver the required flow and pressure efficiently. The referenced proposal describes integrated air passages and cooler interfaces, with an atmospheric space separating air and oil seal regions.

Labyrinth seals and rotating assembly access

Non-contact labyrinth seals isolate the air path from the lubricant. The horizontally split gearbox and inspection ports facilitate checks of rotating elements; split pinion bearing and seal arrangements support on-site access.

Water cooling and condensate connections

Straight-tube intercoolers are selected for the operating flow and pressure. Accessible cooler connections support inspection and cleaning, while condensate removal prevents liquid accumulation. Cooling-water inlet temperature, available flow and water chemistry are essential inputs for package selection.

Side-mounted lubrication and auxiliaries

The structural base supports the driver and side-mounted oil reservoir. The available proposal includes a shaft-driven main pump, electric full-flow auxiliary pump, water-cooled oil cooler and automatic temperature regulation. Duplex oil filtration and accessible components support planned service.

MXS controller and plant integration

The referenced package uses MXS centrifugal compressor control for capacity regulation, anti-surge protection, alarms and operating data. A touchscreen interface, remote access, historical data and compressor sequencing support plant operation. Communication options and integration with existing controllers are agreed for the final package.

Guide vane control and selection basis

Inlet guide vanes regulate air delivery as demand changes; blow-off control protects operation below the selected throttle range. The two examples below share discharge pressure but differ in flow, shaft power and motor size. This demonstrates why model name alone is insufficient for selection.

Typical NX2500 package scope

The final quotation defines included equipment and options. Depending on the selected duty, the package can include:

  • NX2500 airend, engineered motor and structural base
  • Inlet filter and guide vane capacity control
  • Intercooling, aftercooling and condensate connections
  • Main/auxiliary oil pumps, oil cooler and duplex filtration
  • Discharge check valve, blow-off valve and silencer
  • MXS controller and selected instrumentation
  • Performance curves and project-specific documentation

Performance and selection basis

Published nominal power is a catalogue range; it is distinct from the offered motor nameplate power. The 700 kW motor in one example provides the selected driver margin. Catalogue flow and proposal normal flow use different reference conventions.

Manufacturer published model envelope

Published nominal power 335–670 kW
Published discharge pressure 2.7–14.5 barg
Published flow 65–137 m³/min (manufacturer catalogue basis)

Range endpoints are not one simultaneous operating point. Flow reference conditions and the selected pressure determine the available duty. Dimensions and mass are catalogue guidance; installation must use the approved general arrangement.

Two example engineered configurations

The following values are taken from two individual Ingersoll Rand proposals supplied to AVISTA. They describe project-specific selections at 20°C inlet temperature and are not universal ratings of every NX2500.

Proposal Discharge pressure Normal flow Shaft power Offered motor
26-04-338BD0 10.500 barg 5,844.408 Nm³/h 639.793 kW 700 kW / 400 V / 50 Hz / IP23
26-04-339BD0 10.500 barg 4,271.654 Nm³/h 485.111 kW 550 kW / 400 V / 50 Hz / IP23

Flow, shaft power and motor rating must be checked against the final inlet conditions, cooling water and selected performance curve.

Quotation and technical selection

Provide AVISTA with required pressure, flow and reference conditions, cooling-water temperature, electrical supply and installation requirements for an engineered selection.

Applications and installation planning

Industrial manufacturing, chemical plants, utilities and oil-free process or instrument-air systems are potential applications. Confirm pressure, air quality, operating profile and site utilities before selection. Oil-free air still requires appropriate treatment where a specified dew point or particle class is needed.

Installation planning covers cooling-water connections, condensate drainage, inlet and discharge piping, blow-off routing, electrical protection, instrument air and maintenance clearances. Package dimensions, lifting data and utility loads should be taken from the approved project drawings.

Engineering and lifecycle support from AVISTA

AVISTA can support duty selection, technical clarification, quotation, documentation coordination, commissioning, maintenance planning and genuine spare parts. Send required flow with reference conditions, discharge pressure, inlet temperature range, humidity, elevation, cooling-water data, electrical supply and control interfaces for an engineered selection.

NX2500 FAQ

Why do the two NX2500 selections use different motors at the same pressure?

Required power also depends on flow, inlet conditions and the selected aerodynamic configuration. The two proposals have different flow duties and consequently different shaft-power and motor requirements.

Is NX2500 an oil-free compressor?

Yes. The TURBO-AIR design separates the compressed-air path from the lubricated gearing and bearings. Final air-treatment requirements and the selected package are confirmed during technical review.

Are the example performance values guaranteed for my installation?

They describe the stated engineering selections or catalogue envelope. A project guarantee requires an agreed duty point, reference conditions, scope and performance curve.
